Cross Country and Track and Field Announce 2015-16 Signing Class

ALAMOSA, Colo. (August 14, 2015) -- Director of cross country/track & field, Damon Martin, in conjunction with head coach Rock Light are pleased to announce the 2015-16 signing class for Adams State University.The new class consists of 35 student-athletes (24 males & 11 females) who make their way to Alamosa for the fall semester.

"I believe this is one of our best recruiting classes ever; particularly on the woman's side." Martin stated. "I'm excited to work with this group of young student-athletes."

Martin made note of key contributions by graduate assistant David Granato during the recruiting process.

"David did an unbelievable job throughout this entire recruiting period." Martin said of Granato. "He took the ball and ran with it. I'm very proud of him"

"Damon asked me to strive for the best in regard to leading recruiting efforts." Granato said. "I'm excited to begin the season and see how everyone develops."

The group includes five international representatives and student-athletes from 12 different states. Six student-athletes who graduate from Colorado high schools this year were also signed including three from Alamosa High School.

With a class of 24 signees the ASU men look to defend their seventh consecutive Damon Martin USTFCCCA Division II Men's Program of the Year award. It's an honor only known by the ASU men who have won the award every year of its existence.  Paving the way for that distinction were 2014-15 national championships in cross country and indoor track and field. The Grizzlies finished fifth at the outdoor track and field national championships. The men's class consists of 16 distance runners, four sprinters, and two in jump events. Furthermore, the class signed individuals who are slated to compete in jumps/sprints and hurdles/sprints, respectively.
